Welcome back. Now take a breath.

Back to School Time

It's time to start a new school year. Time to meet new teachers, make new friends, learn new lessons, and embark on new adventures.

For some kids, all this can come with anxiety and apprehensions about what lies ahead. That is perfectly normal.

You can help by simply listening to the joys and challenges of the children in your life. Sometimes, it's as simple as having them take a deep breath and calm down. Sometimes, an understanding ear, not a problem-solver, is all they need. Other times, children may need more help getting through a difficult time.

Partners for Public Education has developed an easy-to-read handout with input from education professionals about how you can support children with anxiety at www.partnersforpubliced.org/anxiety.

If you are a parent or guardian, make sure you keep an open line of communication with your children's teachers and the other professionals at their school. They want to talk to you as much as you want to talk to them. You both share a common goal — the success of your children at school and beyond.
